Cellulose: the most abundant biopolymer on earth

Aug 14, 2026

Cellulose is the primary component of plant cell walls and is the most abundant non-manmade polymer on the planet. It's formed of long strings of beta(1-4) glucose molecules that are arranged into straight chains that align parallel each other to create microfibrils, which are essential to make the cell wall strong.
